Fabric Building Maintenance
MegaDome buildings are designed to provide durability and performance with minimal fabric building maintenance. However, to ensure optimal longevity and maintain the performance of your structure, regular maintenance is essential. A thorough inspection of the building should be performed twice a year. Conduct these inspections on a mild day (50 to 70°F/10 to 20°C) to allow for retightening the membrane if needed.

- Foundations
- Check for cracks.
- Inspect the alignment of the blocks.
- Structure – Check for the following:
- Loose bracing;
- Bent longitudinal beam;
- Deformed and/or damaged arch section;
- Slack steel cables.
- Lacing
- Check for breaks or signs of wear.
- Bulk Pile Height – Frequency: every visit
- Ensure that the bulk height does not exceed the prescribed height.
- Membrane
- Check the integrity of the membrane: Inspect the fabric tensioners, membrane tension, and safety bolts.
- Dust Inside the Building
- Note any significant presence of dust on the structure or the membrane.
- Doors
- Lubricate door mechanisms according to the supplier’s instructions.
- Ventilation
- Verify the proper functioning of ventilation systems.
Snow Management (Throughout the winter, after each major storm)
- Monitor snow accumulation on the roof and sides of the building,
- Wind Management (When wind speeds exceed 50 km/h)
- Close all openings of the building:
- Doors
- Ventilation systems
- Close all openings of the building:
- Earthquake
- This building is not highly sensitive to seismic forces, but pay special attention to any hanging or stacked objects.

Snow removal for fabric buildings
Snow removal is a critical aspect of fabric building maintenance, especially in regions with heavy winter snowfall. While MegaDome structures are engineered to handle Canadian snow loads, proactive maintenance helps prevent excessive accumulation that could stress the fabric and frame. Regular inspections after major snowfalls are recommended, and snow should be removed evenly from both sides to maintain structural balance. Using non-metallic tools and avoiding sharp contact with the membrane is essential to prevent damage.
